Daily rates across the Dubai market run from roughly AED 59 to AED 150 depending on the supplier, the model year and the trim. Monthly rates run from about AED 1,290 to AED 2,500.

Renting a J7 With No Deposit

A standard JAC J7 deposit runs AED 500 to AED 1,500 - modest, because the car is inexpensive. It is held as a pre-authorisation on your credit card rather than charged, so the money is ring-fenced rather than taken.

It releases slowly, though: usually 20 to 30 days after the rental ends. If you are visiting Dubai for a fortnight, that hold sits on your card for weeks after you have flown home.

Several suppliers offer the J7 with no deposit at all. On a budget rental this is worth filtering for before anything else - it is frequently worth more than saving AED 10 a day.

If you do pay a deposit, pay it by credit card as a pre-authorisation. Never in cash, never as a straight debit-card charge. Both are considerably harder to recover in a dispute.

Monthly J7 Rental in Dubai

From AED 1,290 per month. That typically includes comprehensive insurance, servicing at most suppliers, and a mileage allowance of 4,000 to 7,000 km - far more generous per day than the 250 km cap on a daily rental.

For a resident who needs cheap, reliable transport, this is close to the best value in the Dubai market. No down payment, no loan, no registration, no servicing bill, no depreciation. You hand it back whenever you want.

Set against ownership: a new JAC J7 in the UAE costs around AED 54,000. At AED 1,290 a month you would rent for about three and a half years before matching the purchase price - and in that time you would never pay for a service, a tyre or an insurance renewal.

That calculation is particularly compelling on a Chinese budget brand where the resale value is genuinely uncertain. Renting transfers that risk to the supplier.

Confirm the excess mileage rate in writing before you sign. It is the number that catches people out at month end.

Delivery, Collection and Dubai Airport

Most suppliers listed here deliver free of charge across Dubai - to hotels, residences and Dubai International Airport. Delivery to DWC, Sharjah or Abu Dhabi may carry a fee.

If you want the car waiting at DXB on arrival, give the supplier your flight number and terminal when you book rather than on the day. It lets them track a delayed flight rather than charging you a waiting fee.

What You Need to Rent a J7 in Dubai

• UAE residents: a valid UAE driving licence and your Emirates ID.
• Visitors: your passport, a valid UAE visa or entry stamp, and either an International Driving Permit or a licence from a country Dubai recognises directly - the UK, US, Canada, Australia, most of the EU and the GCC all qualify.

Minimum age is typically 21 for the J7 - the lowest tier, since it is classed as an economy sedan. Some suppliers additionally require that the licence has been held for at least a year.

You will need a credit card in the main driver's name for the deposit, unless you have specifically booked a no-deposit rental.

Insurance, Mileage and Salik

Basic comprehensive insurance is included in every rental, as required by RTA Dubai regulations. It covers accidental damage where the fault is not yours. A police report is mandatory at the time of any accident - without one, no claim will be processed.

What it does not do is remove your liability. Most policies carry an excess of roughly AED 750 to AED 1,500 on a J7, which you pay before insurance engages. A Collision Damage Waiver reduces or removes it for around AED 20-40 per day.

Standard mileage is 250 km per day, or 4,000-7,000 km per month. Dubai to Abu Dhabi and back is roughly 280 km, so a single day trip will exceed the daily cap.

Salik tolls are AED 5 per gate, billed to you at the end of the rental.

Before You Take the Keys

Video the car before you drive it away. Walk around it slowly with your phone recording, then take close-ups of every existing scratch, kerbed wheel and stone chip. Send that video to the supplier immediately over WhatsApp so there is a timestamped record.

This takes ninety seconds and it prevents the overwhelming majority of deposit disputes in Dubai - nearly all of which come down to disagreement about pre-existing damage. On a budget car that has been rented dozens of times, there will be existing damage. Document it.

The JAC J7 - What You Are Actually Getting

A compact four-door sedan with a 1.5-litre turbocharged petrol engine, front-wheel drive, and an automatic gearbox. Five seats, a decent boot, and a surprisingly generous equipment list for the price.

JAC is a Chinese manufacturer with a long-standing joint venture with Volkswagen - which shows in the engineering. The J7 is not a Volkswagen, but it borrows enough of the discipline to feel considerably more solid than its price suggests.

What you get as standard on most trims: a large touchscreen, reversing camera, cruise control, and - unusually at this money - a sunroof. The cabin is plain but well put together.

It is not fast and it is not exciting. The 1.5-litre engine is adequate. The gearbox is unremarkable. Nobody rents a J7 for the driving experience.

What it is: cheap, quiet at cruising speed, economical on regular 95 petrol, and comfortable enough to spend a month commuting in without complaint.

The honest summary: at AED 59 a day it is the cheapest way to have a proper five-seat sedan with air conditioning and a sunroof in Dubai. If that is what you need, nothing else on the market beats it on price.

J7, Yaris, or Baleno?

These three occupy the same bracket in Dubai and the choice comes down to what you value.

The Toyota Yaris has the reliability reputation and the familiarity. Everybody knows what a Yaris is. It is the safest, least surprising choice.

The Suzuki Baleno is a hatchback - smaller boot, slightly cheaper, easier to park.

The JAC J7 is the cheapest of the three to rent, the best equipped, and the only one with a sunroof as standard. The trade-off is an unfamiliar Chinese badge and an unproven long-term reliability record.

On a rental, that trade-off is heavily in the J7's favour. You are not buying the car. You are not taking on the resale risk or the ten-year reliability question. You are renting it for a week or a month, and for that period it is a well-equipped sedan at the lowest price on the market.

If you want the safest choice, take the Yaris. If you want the most car for the least money, take the J7.
