Who Makes ZX Cars

The full company name is Hebei Zhongxing Automobile, and outside China it trades as ZX Auto, sometimes written as one word, ZXAUTO. It is not one of the new electric start ups. ZX Auto was building and exporting pickups long before that wave, and the Gulf has been one of its markets for years.

That history matters when you buy one used. These are plain working pickups first and gadgets second, but the badge carries little weight with Dubai buyers, and that shapes the resale figure more than anything about the truck itself.

The Grandlion and the Terralord

The Grandlion is the newer and larger of the two, and the one you will meet most often in Dubai listings. It is a double cab pickup with four wheel drive, and adverts in the UAE describe both turbocharged petrol and diesel versions, so read the engine line on each listing before you assume either. Some sellers write it as Grand Lion, which is the same truck.

The Terralord is the older design, a double cab pickup that has been sold in Gulf markets for several years. Its adverts usually quote a 2.4 litre petrol engine. Gearbox details vary between sellers even for what looks like the same truck, so ask whether yours is manual or automatic and drive it before you agree anything.

Other ZX nameplates, such as the Grand Tiger, show up in Dubai only rarely. If a seller lists a ZX model you cannot place, the Mulkiya settles it, because the model printed there by the RTA is what you are buying.

Pickup or SUV: Reading a ZX Listing

Some ZX adverts in Dubai file these trucks under SUV. Both models are pickups with an open load bed. The category label comes from the listing form, not from the maker, so look at the photos and the Mulkiya rather than the body type field when you compare a ZX with other vehicles.

It also affects insurance and, for a business, how the vehicle is registered. Tell your insurer it is a pickup, and if you plan to carry goods for a company, ask the RTA or your typing centre whether the plate category needs to change.

Zero Kilometre ZX Trucks in the Used Section

A lot of the ZX stock in Dubai is brand new. Traders often place unregistered trucks in the used listings, where they sit next to cars with a genuine history, and a ZX with zero kilometres can look like a bargain against a new one when it is really the same thing.

Treat a truck like that as a new purchase. Ask whether it has ever been registered, by whom and on what date, because a first registration in a trader's name makes you the second owner on paper. Ask too when any warranty starts and which company stands behind it, and get that name in writing.

Some ZX listings carry an Exportable tag. That only means the seller will also sell it to a buyer taking the truck abroad. For a buyer living here, what matters is that the car can be registered in the UAE: check that it is GCC specification and that the seller can hand over everything the RTA needs.

GCC Specification and What It Covers

ZX trucks advertised in Dubai are usually listed as GCC spec, meaning they were built or prepared for Gulf conditions, with cooling and air conditioning sized for the summer. Get that in writing and make sure the Mulkiya or the import papers agree. A truck built for another market can still be legal here, but it may run different software, a different screen language and parts that local parts shops do not stock.

Living With a ZX Pickup in Dubai

A double cab pickup is a different daily companion from a saloon or a crossover, and it is worth thinking that through before you buy a ZX for personal use. The length makes some mall and residential car parks a squeeze, so measure your own parking bay if it is tight. An empty load bed lets the rear end skip a little over speed bumps and expansion joints, and the ride settles down once there is weight in the back. Anything left in an open bed is exposed to sun, dust and passing hands, which is why many owners fit a hard cover or a canopy.

For a small business the sums look different. A pickup that carries tools during the week and the family at the weekend can replace two vehicles, provided the registration and insurance match how it is used. Tell the insurer about any business use, keep fuel and service receipts together, and ask your accountant how a vehicle bought through a company should be recorded before the transfer happens.

What Sets the Price of a Used ZX

Registration status comes first. An unregistered zero kilometre truck sits close to its new figure, and the first registration takes a noticeable bite out of it, which is good news for the second buyer. After that come the model, the engine, the gearbox, the state of the load bed, and whether the paperwork is complete.

Because so few ZX trucks change hands, a fair comparison means looking beyond the badge. Set a used ZX against other double cab pickups of a similar size and age, then decide what the less familiar name is worth to you. Each listing shows the asking price and an estimated monthly payment, which makes that side by side check quick. Ask the seller what is included at that figure, such as a fresh service, new tyres, a bed liner or registration, because two trucks with the same asking price can be quite different deals once the extras are counted.

Checking a Used ZX Pickup

A pickup that has worked for a living shows it in specific places, and a short list covers most of them.

• Look along the load bed for dents, cracked liners and fresh paint, and open and close the tailgate a few times.

• Check the tow bar, the rear springs and the tyres for signs the truck has carried or pulled heavy loads.

• Select four wheel drive on a loose surface and confirm the dashboard light comes on and goes off again.

• Run the air conditioning at full power after the truck has stood in the sun.

• Try the screen, the reversing camera and every button on the steering wheel.

• Book a pre purchase inspection at an independent workshop and keep the report with the sale papers.

Parts and Servicing for ZX Trucks in Dubai

This is the question that matters most with a smaller Chinese brand. Before you commit, call a workshop that handles Chinese pickups, give them the chassis number, and ask what a routine service costs and how quickly they can get filters, brake pads and a windscreen. If the seller offers a service package or a warranty, get the provider's name and the exact terms in writing. Ask about body panels and model specific trim as well, because those are harder to find than consumables for any low volume brand.

Transferring a ZX at the RTA

Clear any fines on the plate first, and if a bank still has a loan on the truck, the seller settles it and the bank issues a clearance letter. On transfer day the seller brings the Mulkiya, both of you bring your Emirates ID, and you arrange insurance in your own name beforehand. An older vehicle may need a technical test. A zero kilometre truck that was never registered goes through as a first registration instead, so ask the trader which route applies.
