The McLaren 570S Spyder 2018 rejects that paradigm that chopping off a car’s roof inevitably dulls performance due to the extra weight from structural bracing and folding-top mechanisms. The 570S gains just 101 pounds in its transformation to Spider form and, according to McLaren, loses no stiffness at all in its carbon-fiber tub. The retractable roof is a two-piece arrangement that folds under a tonneau cover in 15 seconds and at speeds of up to 25 mph. The topspeed on this supercar is a 204 mph with the top up and 196 mph with the top lowered and boasts a zero-to-60-mph time of 3.1 seconds The interior on the 570S Spyder offers a minimalistic cockpit design and a pair of ergonomically designed sport seats. The upward opening dihedral doors remain and make it a bit easier to slide into the low seats. The center of the dashboard is dominated by a vertically mounted touchscreen and the general fit and finish and switchgear quality is as one would expect of a McLaren. The materials that the cockpit, doors and seats are covered in are all up to the customer and include a mix of leather, Alcantara and carbon fiber in numerous colors.
